Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails reunite to face a powerful new adversary, Shadow, a mysterious villain with powers beyond anything they’ve faced before. With their abilities surpassed, the Sonic team must find an unlikely alliance. In the previous films, the filmmakers cited the single-player game Sonic the Hedgehog (2001) and Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) as inspiration. The film also draws on narrative elements from the Saturday morning animated television series Sonic the Hedgehog (1993). In the Sonic X television series, Professor Gerald Robotnik was killed by G.U.N. agents. But in this film, he’s still alive and reunited with his grandson, Dr. Robots.
